Malware

Malware comes in various forms including virus, worms, trojans, ransomware, adware, spyware or any other software with malicious intent. Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUPs), including toolbars, and search page hijackers are considered malware also. Detection of PUPs may not be enabled in your Internet Security by default, but is a good feature to have enabled.

Malware can spread via various different means, including email attachments, infected USB sticks, infected or compromised websites. Malware can also access your machine via cleverly crafted files. The files are created to exploit security holes in software running on your PC, or security holes in the operating system.

Internet Security

For the average computer user, Internet Security software is often the first line of defence in protecting their device. Internet Security can help to protect users from opening malicious files, visiting malicious links, or even stop the installation of PUPs. Some Internet Security will also advise you when security patches are available for your operating system and software on your computer. This enables you to keep your operating system and software up-to-date which helps to prevent malware from exploiting vulnerabilities.
